Derwin is an 18th century longhouse with a large farmhouse kitchen and an oil fired aga. It has a spacious lounge with a log burning stove. This is a fine example of a traditional 18th century longhouse. In days gone by the family would have shared the accommodation under one roof with their domestic animals. The animals would have been housed at the lower end, with the family occupying a slightly higher level removed from them. The animals have long gone from their quarters, which has now been transformed into a spacious lounge complete with gallery.

The friendliest and warmest of welcomes from a couple dedicated to providing a good service and proud of their country. The cottage was homely, warm (particularly the kitchen with the Aga) and delightful. Generous logs provided for a real fire and heaps of hot water at all times from the Aga. We enjoyed cooking some wonderful meals on the Aga and the setting of the cottage was charming. Rhys and Mari did all they could to ensure we were looked after.

We give 5 Stars!

My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay at Derwin Cottage, which is a wonderfully refurbished, quaint farm house, I think built around the 1700's, if I remember correctly.

Mari is such an accommodating host.  The kitchen is spacious with a window seat, dining room table and TV.

The bedrooms are cozy with plenty of closet space, and the beds are comfortable. I normally don't fall asleep easily in new places, but did so right on the first night staying here!

The living room is unique with its own library of wall shelving filled with books, and above ladder connected to a balcony also filled with books!

The cottage is close enough to the main road which makes it ideal for taking day trips to various places such as fabulous Portmeirion.

We highly recommend staying here.

Kate and Pete Brereton.

Llys Derwin is a fine example of an Elizabethan farmhouse restored to preserve all its original features. With inglenook fireplace, stone circular staircase, oak panelling and leaded windows. Recently dated dendrochronologicaly at C 1543. This sixteenth century farmhouse was built on the probable site of a Roman Bath-house. It retains all it's original feature characteristics.
The first floor is reached by a stone spiral staircase complete with slit window reminiscent of an arrow hole. The roof is supported by a couple of massive collar beam trusses with the original oak purlins and spars exposed. The solid oak post and panel partition in the hall is a replica of the original which was unfortunately removed in the early part of the last century to make a threshing floor.

We had such a lovely stay at Derwin cottage, which is so characterful and well appointed. Beautiful garden and welcome pack appreciated. Mari was very friendly and attentive to any queries. It felt very peaceful and private and a perfect base to explore hikes in the Snowdonia area and surrounds. Highly recommended.

We had the most fabulous time at this gorgeous cottage, even in December the weather was kind and we spent time exploring Snowdonia and all the lovely beaches which our dog loved, our host was a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome… we will definitely come again – Thank you

General Information
SEE & DO

The cottages are situated on the western edge of the Snowdonia National Park, equidistant from the beaches on the northern and southern coasts of eastern LlÅ·n.

The LlÅ·n Peninsula has a stunning, sweeping coastline with the backdrop of the foothills of Snowdonia. Between Aberdaron, departure point for Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island - one of Wales' Holy Islands) and the bustling resorts of Abersoch, Porthmadog and Pwllheli lie some of the loveliest beaches of North Wales, sandy coves in unspoilt rural surroundings.

There are spectacular golf courses, modern marinas, riding stables and activity centres, and for families there are slate caverns, museums and castles waiting to be explored. Locally - Bryncir Woollen Mill turns Welsh wool from fleece to flannel before your eyes using traditional spinning and weaving looms powered by a water wheel - soft fleecy woollens make perfect holiday souvenirs.

The cycle track that begins down our lane stretches from Bryncir to Caernarfon following the old railway line, and there are miles of coastal footpaths for walkers.

Thank you so much to Rhys and Mari for a perfect place to stay this Bank Holiday weekend. The cottage was in the most picturesque, perfect location and the cottage itself is faultess. Perfect for a cosy weekend away. We have had the best time and the complimentary bottle of wine and cakes on arrival was very appreciated. I couldn’t recommend this cottage enough!
