Llys Derwin
This sixteenth century farmhouse was built on the
probable site of a Roman Bath-house. The present building dates
from circa 1540 and is described by students of architecture as
being a sub-medieval hall house. It retains all it's original
feature characteristics including walls of massive undressed
boulders, arched doorway, opposite doors and windows, massive
inglenoon with attendant bread oven.
The first floor is reached by a stone spiral staircase complete
with slit window reminiscent of an arrow hole. The roof is
supported by a couple of massive collar beam trusses with the
original oak purlins and spars exposed.
The solid oak post and panel partition in the hall is a replica
of the original which was unfortunately removed in the early
part of the last century to make a thrashing floor.
The small stone vessel dated 1664 is reputed to have been
utilised as a mobile baptismal font.
